SAY HELLO TO FTA’S NEXT INTREPID LEADER: MARY PETERSON

FTA’s Board of Trustees has selected Mary Peterson to be the next executive director of the Federation of Tax Administrators. Gale Garriott announced his retirement earlier this year and is expected to leave the post in January.

Peterson was the commissioner for the Vermont Department of Taxes from 2011 to 2017 and served on FTA's Board of Trustees.

Mary has served on the Board of Directors of the Vermont League of Cities and Towns and she was elected for three terms to the Vermont House of Representatives, where she specialized in legislation dealing with property tax, sales tax simplification, corporate tax reform, municipal revenue and economic development incentives. She also served as Clerk of the Ways & Means Committee and Chair of the Joint Legislative Council.

For the past three years she has worked as senior tax counsel with Rath, Young and Pignatelli, and also counseled nonprofits on finance issues through her MNP Consulting firm.

Her undergraduate degree in government is from St. Lawrence and her law degree is from Northeastern.
