Award for Outstanding Compliance Program in State Tax Administration

PURPOSE:

This award is intended to encourage the creative design, development and implementation of effective methods of improving compliance with state tax laws. The award is designed to encourage excellence and innovation in the general field of programs for the audit, discovery, and collection of taxes.

ELIGIBILITY:

Eligibility is limited to members of the Federation of Tax Administrators.

SUBMISSIONS:

Nominations must be submitted by the chief executive officer of the member revenue agency. The nomination consists of a complete written explanation of the program (not to exceed 10 pages), discussing the nature, purpose and content of the initiative, along with its impact, strengths and weaknesses. Any background analysis on work done to target the need for assistance and/or education should also be included. There is no application form.

Awards will be accepted via email (PDF preferred), a URL link (website) or other electronic means. Submission materials should not exceed the paper equivalent of 10 pages, although supporting materials of any size (such as manuals or videos) are acceptable.

JUDGING:

Entries will be judged by an independent panel of experts. Preference will be given to programs that are targeted in nature (those that address a particular group or specific tax action). Entries will be judged on the basis of factors such as originality, transferability to other agencies, effectiveness, and impact. Special consideration will be given to programs that make use of technology, reduce taxpayer burden, promote voluntary compliance, include any mechanism for measuring results, or feature a FedState component.

PRESENTATION:

The award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Federation of Tax Administrators to be held June 12-15, 2016 in Annapolis, MD.
