Award for Outstanding Technology Applications for State Tax Administration

PURPOSE:

The award is designed to encourage the creative design, development, and implementation of effective applications of automated information processing technologies to tax administration.  Applications could have an external or internal focus and could encompass a comprehensive systems overhaul or a specific application.

ELIGIBILITY:

The award is designed to encourage the creative design, development, and implementation of effective applications of automated information processing technologies to tax administration.  Applications could have an external or internal focus and could encompass a comprehensive systems overhaul or a specific application.

SUBMISSIONS:

Nominations and entries must be submitted by the chief executive officer of the member revenue agency. The nomination consists of a written explanation of the program discussing the nature, purpose and content of the application, along with its innovative features, impact, strengths and weaknesses. There is no application form. Programs will not be judged on a return-to-investment ratio, although such data should be included where appropriate. Brevity is encouraged, but make the submission as long as needed to include all your pertinent points.

Award submissions will be accepted via email (PDF preferred), a URL link (website) or other electronic means. Written materials should not exceed 10 pages.

JUDGING:

Entries will be judged by an independent panel of experts.  Entries will be judged on the basis of factors such as originality, transferability, quality, and effectiveness. The application nominated may be targeted or comprehensive in nature.

PRESENTATION:

The award will be presented at the Annual Meeting of the Federation of Tax Administrators to be held June 11-14, 2017, in Seattle, Wash.  The winner will also be invited to make a presentation of the program or application during the Annual Meeting.
